Welcome to
St. Francis Wood
St. Francis Wood is a primarily residential neighborhood located in the southwestern section of San Francisco. It is known for its beautiful homes, manicured lawns, tree-lined streets, and quiet, peaceful atmosphere. St. Francis Wood was developed in the early 20th century by a group of San Francisco investors who purchased the land in 1912 and began planning a residential neighborhood that would be a suburban oasis within the city. The neighborhood was designed as one of the eight master-planned residence parks, or "garden suburbs" to be a self-contained community with large, luxurious homes set amid tree-lined streets. The architecture of the homes was varied, with styles including Colonial Revival, Spanish Revival, and Arts and Crafts. St. Francis Wood was also designed with amenities such as parks and playgrounds, and it was one of the first neighborhoods in San Francisco to have underground utilities. The developers marketed the neighborhood as an exclusive enclave for the wealthy and socially prominent.
