November in San Francisco is better than its reputation. Before the full holiday rush, the city fills with events you won’t find anywhere else: a Bhangra night market downtown, hip-hop companies from around the world at the Palace of Fine Arts, disco in the street on a Thursday night. The lights do come on, but there’s far more going on than tree lightings.
Here’s what’s actually worth your time around San Francisco this month, each pulled from its official source and grouped by the kind of night you’re after.
If you only make it to a few: Bhangra & Beats is the easy free one to drop into after work, the Hip-Hop Dance Festival is the one to buy tickets for, and Lightscape is the one to build a whole evening around.

Also around town
- The Union Square Holiday Ice Rink opens November 4
- The Union Square and Ghirardelli Square tree lightings land in late November; dates aren’t posted yet, but Ghirardelli Square keeps a running list worth checking: Ghirardelli Square events
Every one of these happens within reach of a neighborhood someone calls home. That’s part of what makes San Francisco worth putting down roots in, not just the market, but the life that comes with it.
If you’re curious what it’s like to live near Golden Gate Park, the waterfront, or downtown, we’re glad to talk it through.
